Master Chart of Essential Subjects Provided by The Irish Times

Each college has its own basic minimum entry – or matriculation – requirements without which no student can be enrolled. In addition many courses require particular grades in certain subjects. This is a master chart of college matriculation and course subject requirements stated in terms of Leaving Certificate subjects at Higher or Ordinary level. Check the college brochures for absolute certainty.

Guide to Master Charts

H = Higher Level Leaving Cert

O = Ordinary Level Leaving Cert

A,B,C,D = the particular grade required, a minimum of a 3 unless otherwise stated. Thus, OB = a minimum of B3 on an Ordinary paper, HC = a minimum of C3 on a Higher paper.

Language = a language other than English, where not otherwise specified one or more languages are required. Science = one or more science subjects required. Science is defined differently for different courses – e.g. sometimes it includes agricultural science and technological subjects, sometimes not. Check college brochures.
