The Poems
A total of thirty-six poems is prescribed for Ordinary Level. Those which also form part of the selection at Higher Level may be found in the Higher Level poetry.
Revising prescribed poetry
For each of the prescribed poems, make sure you have covered the following:
- Theme: what the poem is about
- Tone /Mood: the attitude of the poet to his/her subject
- Language: choice of words (e.g. archaic, casual), figures of speech
- Imagery: sight, taste, touch, hearing, sound
- Metaphors, symbols
- Genre: type of poem, e.g. ballad, sonnet, ode, lyric
- Sounds and suggestions
- Patterns and Contrasts
